Shopify tracking setup

Shopify conversion tracking for Google Ads and GA4

If your Google Ads or GA4 numbers do not match your Shopify orders, bidding and reports rest on weak data. We set up a tested tracking layer between your store, Google Tag Manager, GA4, and Google Ads, then document it so your team can maintain it.

A CLOSER LOOK

Know what the work covers before you decide.

These details explain what may be reviewed, what you can prepare, and which decisions remain with you or the platform.

01

What gets set up

The work uses a Shopify custom pixel to send store events to your own Google Tag Manager container, which then passes them to GA4 and Google Ads. Exact scope is confirmed in writing before work begins.

  • Shopify custom pixel with the customer privacy settings configured
  • Events for product views, add to cart, checkout steps, and purchases
  • GA4 ecommerce events and a Google Ads purchase conversion
  • Optional add-ons such as enhanced conversions or Merchant Center cart data, agreed separately
02

How it is tested

Each event is checked with a real walk-through of your store, including a test order. We compare the purchase value and order ID that arrive in GA4 and Google Ads with the order in Shopify. Small differences between platforms are normal because of consent choices, ad blockers, and attribution windows, and we explain what to expect.

03

Your accounts stay yours

You invite us by email at the lowest access level that does the job, and remove it when the work ends. We never need your passwords or one-time codes. The container, pixel and documentation are handed over to you.

04

Privacy and consent

Tracking should follow your privacy policy and the choices your visitors make. The pixel is set to respect Shopify’s customer privacy settings, and customer details are not sent unless you choose enhanced conversions and your policy covers it. This is a technical setup, not legal advice.

05

What this does not do

Tracking records what happened. It does not increase sales, change how Google Ads performs, or affect Google Merchant Center decisions. Shopify’s own Google & YouTube app also offers conversion tracking; this service is for stores that want Tag Manager control, GA4 funnel data, or a documented setup. GMCRestore is independent and is not affiliated with Google or Shopify.

Pricing

What it costs.

Each package lists what is included. Anything outside it gets a written quote, confirmed with you before work starts. Tag Manager, GA4 and Google Ads are free to use; third-party apps or ad spend are not part of the fee.
